We performed an assessment of plant maintenance operations. Responsibilities also included development and installation of both manual and automated Maintenance Work Request, Central Dispatch, Scheduling, and Reporting systems for maintenance departments, including development and installation of a Work Order System and Central Planning function for control of preventive maintenance activities and resource allocations for all maintenance departments. Additionally, the project scope included development and installation of a scheduling system for the Material Control Department, which was responsible for receiving and shipping functions, as well as control of raw materials and parts inventories.

FAIRCHILD CAMERA AND INSTRUMENT, DIGITAL DIVISION, SEMICONDUCTOR MANUFACTURING REENGINEERING

We analyzed the material flows, floor layouts, equipment and labor capacities, sequence and content of activities, and departmental organization and implementation of changes to realize productivity improvements. Scheduling systems, tailored to meet the needs of individual departments were developed and implemented in the wafer fabrication, test, assembly, packaging, maintenance, production and inventory control, marketing, quality assurance, and material control (purchasing, shipping, and receiving) departments.

FOOTE CONE & BELDING, PRODUCTION AND FINANCIAL CONTROL PROCESS REENGINEERING

We assessed the processes used by FCB's San Francisco Office to estimate the cost of orders accepted from its largest customer (AT&T Wireless Services), manage associated production costs, and bill and collect for completed work. Initial project efforts focused on assisting FCB management and staff to develop a common understanding of how the firm's AT&T account financial control processes were currently operating, the nature, magnitude, and cause of financial control problems that were being experienced, and initiatives that had recently been undertaken to address some of these problems. Subsequently, we provided assistance in developing and assessing a continuum of alternative conceptual approaches for improving FCB's financial controls for the AT&T account.

INDUSTRIAL ROBOTICS COMPANY, BUSINESS PLANNING

We developed a financing plan for a Northern California robot manufacturer. The engagement included review and analysis of the existing business plan; development of cash flow projections, income statements, and balance sheets; research on the market and competition; and analysis of alternative financing methods. Additionally, we provided assistance with presentations to venture capital firms, investment bankers, and securities and exchange business lawyers.

JASON & SON, MANUFACTURING REENGINEERING

We assessed the organization, administration, and operations of this Northern California food processing company. The objectives of the assessment were to reduce operating and administrative support costs, improve profitability, and provide a basis for long-term growth and development. The assessment resulted in establishment of production standards for over seventy-five products; development of a production planning and control schedule; identification of improved methods for increasing the utilization of equipment and accounting, administrative, and operating personnel; development of recommendations for product pricing; and development of a financial forecasting model.
